You’ve been a vocal critic of stop-and-frisk: are there other specific policy initiatives you’d like to see in addressing the Nasty Woman – Nasty Woman Definition with Kamala Harris T-Shirt besides I will buy this protestors’ demands?. I think it’s important to see the complexity of these communities and what they’re going through. Many of them are coming out for the first time since dealing with COVID-19, they’re seeing people they know dying at a disproportionate rate. On top of that, you have George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Sean Bell, Sandra Bland: these are drips and drips and drips in a bucket that is, at this point, going to overflow. The mayor is trying to cut the Division of Youth and Community Development by 40%, but keeping the police department almost 100% intact at $6 billion. These are drips and drips and drips. I have been a critic of disparate policing—”stop, question and frisk” was, at that time, an example of disparate policing, but it’s also broken windows policing, marijuana, social distancing…we have always had disparate policing.

What can people do to help protestors in New York and elsewhere?. There are many things that can be done right at this moment in time. We can, in this state, in this city, repeal 50-A, we can put a real, independent inspector general in the Nasty Woman – Nasty Woman Definition with Kamala Harris T-Shirt besides I will buy this Department of Investigation, we can allow the City Council to have advice and consent in voting on the police commissioner. Right now, they do not. We can make it so that the commissioner is not the sole arbiter. We can make sure the New York City budget reflects equity, and not have a $6-billion-dollar budget for the NYPD remain almost intact. On the state level, we can make sure that we’re not cutting Medicaid, as the governor has been trying to do. We can tax the wealthiest among us more highly. We can commit to all that right now, but not committing to anything and putting a curfew on the city…what message is that sending?
